LFB: Deliverables 325

Deliverables Overview

You’re responsible for completing the deliverables outlined below. They’re designed to push you beyond just showing up—and toward genuine learning and engagement.

Engagement

Just being present isn’t enough. In business, that’s called ‘meeting expectations’, i.e., the minimum. In this course, we go further.

Engagement means coming to class prepared, actively contributing to discussions (both in person and via Teams), asking thoughtful questions, and responding thoughtfully to your peers. We’ll use the Socratic Method to explore cases and key concepts, which means preparation is non-negotiable.

Refer to the Engagement page in the Course Policies section of this course site for details on how this will be assessed. Surprise quizzes may be part of the mix.

Success Plan

Complete this deliverable by posting your plan to the Success Plan module in Canvas.

Your first major deliverable is a personal Success Plan. This is your roadmap, your strategy for tackling the challenges and opportunities in this course. It should reflect how you plan to grow as a learner and as a future professional.

Minimum: 750 words. Include:

  • Concrete actions for success
  • How you’ll respond to adversity
  • A process for tracking your growth.

Write and post directly to Canvas, no Word, PDF, or Google Docs. Review my guidance on writing for digital platforms before you begin.

Ideas Essay

Complete this deliverable by posting your plan to the Ideas Essay module in Canvas.

Choose one quote from the Some Ideas section of this course site. Reflect on it. What does it mean to you? How does it connect to your goals, values, or learning?

Max: 750 words. Include:

  • The quote you selected
  • Clear writing, sound grammar, and original thought
  • Your perspective, supported by thoughtful analysis

Again, post directly to Canvas using the digital platform. No file attachments.

Quizzes

Quizzes open 24 hours after we finish the in-class review of the chapter. You have a 24-hour window to complete each one. No late submissions. Miss the window? That’s an F. Set calendar reminders and stay ahead.

Simulations

Simulations are a core component of this course and are designed to give students practical experience applying legal principles to realistic business scenarios. Each simulation aligns with key legal topics in the course—such as jurisdiction, contracts, business formation, employment law, intellectual property, and digital privacy—and is integrated directly into the weekly schedule.

Students will work individually and in teams to:

  • Analyze a legal issue based on a fictional business or legal scenario

  • Develop a legal strategy or course of action

  • Use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to roleplay stakeholders, simulate responses, or surface alternative arguments

  • Submit a written deliverable such as a legal memo, risk assessment, or strategic recommendation

  • Reflect on the simulation experience and their use of AI

Each simulation will include:

  • A scenario brief with background facts and stakeholder roles

  • Clear deliverables and grading rubrics

  • A required AI Use Disclosure explaining how students engaged with AI tools in their analysis

Simulations are designed to enhance legal reasoning, teamwork, communication, and digital literacy. Active participation and timely submission of simulation assignments are essential for course success.

Note: Simulations are graded as formal deliverables and represent a significant portion of your course grade. See the schedule for simulation timing and assignment details.

Again, post directly to Canvas using the digital platform. No file attachments. Do not post a Word, PDF, or Google Doc. Minimum effort earns a minimum grade.

Success Assessment

Complete this deliverable by posting your plan to the Success Plan module in Canvas.

Your final self-assessment revisits your original Success Plan. What worked? What didn’t? How did your expectations align with reality? What did you learn about yourself?

Minimum: 750 words. Focus on:

  • Growth over grades
  • Process over perfection
  • Reflection on choices, outcomes, and progress

Again, post directly to Canvas using the digital platform. No file attachments.

Final Exam

A writing-based final exam focused on course themes. You’ll interpret and analyze a legal/business issue. Again: no file uploads. Post directly to Canvas using the digital platform.
